In the assigned reading for my Basic Applications of Technology class for week 8, we read and viewed videos about authoring tools, video editing, and SCORM. Each of these is beneficial to teachers who are creating lessons that are reaching students in a classroom setting using technology. The role of the teacher changes almost as quickly as the updates of software on our computers but the one constancy is the teacher is in charge of the students’ academic growth. One of the most powerful forces changing teachers’ and students’ roles in education is technology.  Using and becoming familiar with authoring tools, video editing, and SCORM is just another way to keep the students engaged.

With the arrangement and manipulation of video slides, teachers can deliver the information needed for a lesson. With proper editing, teachers can make sure the information being taught will reach their students. Editing videos can be time-consuming and rigorous, so several types of editing software have been made available for personal computers to help people in this task. I found the following YouTube very helpful.

Video Editing

SCORM is something I am not familiar with as being a classroom tool. SCORM stands for Sharable, Content, Object, Reference Model. Sweetwater Independent School District used Bright Thinker as the platform for both our in-person and online students. I believe Bright Thinker falls into this category. SCORM collects data including completion status, pass/fail, time spent, and score. Our Bright Thinker has the same format. I do not claim to have great knowledge of both but would like to know more about SCORM.

Teachers need to go into the lesson with a plan and focus. Technology is just the icing on top that makes the lesson more enjoyable. Great teachers are always on the lookout for obtaining the correct tools that are interactive and will enhance the students’ knowledge and engagement.
